This Thursday, place at the queen stage of the Pyrenees on the Tour de France 2023 with 144.9 kilometers between Tarbes and Cauterets-Cambasque.

The course

The big stage of the Pyrenees, it’s this Thursday that it happens. On the program: 144.9 kilometers in the heart of the Hautes-Pyrénées, with a departure from Tarbes. After regarding twenty kilometers, the Côte de Capvern-les-Bains (5.6km at 4.8%) should give rise to a first selection for the breakaway of the day. Then, place in a traditional Pyrenean sequence: the Col d’Aspin (12km at 6.5%) followed by the Col du Tourmalet (17.1km at 7.3%). The long descent from this summit of the Tour will lead the runners to the foot of the final ascent, towards Cauterets-Cambasque (16km at 5.4%).

Favorites

If a breakaway of strong men is likely to liven up the day, the stage is highly likely to be played between the tough guys in the general classification. At this little game, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) are obviously the two big favorites of the day. Advantage to the Dane, who appeared very strong the day before. Behind the two men, riders like Simon Yates (Jayco-Alula), Michael Woods (Israel-Premier Tech), yellow jersey Jay Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) might take advantage of the marking between the two big favorites to take their chance.

French chances

Behind the two ogres of this Tour de France, Romain Bardet (Team DSM) and David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) act as outsiders. Especially since the two tricolors have several times proclaimed their desire to win a stage on this Grande Boucle. A little further back, Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) might take advantage of the marking between the big favorites to isolate himself at the head of the race.

In the event of a breakaway going to the end, Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) is obviously a profile capable of winning this Thursday on the Pyrenean roads. Without forgetting Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-Quick Step) and Victor Lafay (Cofidis), rather punchers, but who might pass the various difficulties to afford a prestigious stage victory.
