What medications should be “discarded” for “better treatment”? This is the question answered this Wednesday, December 13, 2023 the professional magazine Prescribe , which updated its list of drugs “more dangerous than useful”. It now includes 105 drugs, including 88 marketed in France. Here are the main ones.
Among painkillers and anti-inflammatories
Prescribe indicates that some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories and relaxant medications have more negative side effects than benefits.
For the first family of products, this is for example Cartrex, Voltarene or Ketum gel. In the second, we find in particular Décontractyl (not marketed in France), Miorel or Lumirelax.
Among the anti-colds and anti-sore throats
Many medications, often decongestants, for colds are also included in the list of Prescribe. These molecules expose you to serious or even fatal cardiovascular disorders, explains the review.
Among this family of medications, we find in particular Actifed Rhume, Dolirhume, Humex, Nurofen or Rhinadvil. Among anti-sore throat medications, Maxilase is particularly concerned.
Among cough suppressants
“Various medications used to relieve a cough, sometimes annoying but benign, expose one to disproportionate adverse effects”continues Prescribe.
The list of these incriminated drugs includes Toplexil, Muscol, Bisolvon. The first has “neuroleptic” effects while the next two have no use other than that of a placebo.
Among anti-gastroenteritis drugs
The review also indicates that medicated clays used in various intestinal disorders, including diarrhea, heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux, should be banned due to their natural pollution by lead.
This family of medications includes Smecta, Bedelix and Gelox.
