If you already have your tickets for one or more matches in the Euro 2024 competition, it is already time to prepare your trip across the Rhine. But before you throw yourself headlong into the search for accommodation or a mode of transport, the European Consumer Center and its European service remind you of the good reflexes to avoid mishaps.

Major sporting events, such as Euro 2024 in Germany, attract many supporters and visitors. The European Consumer Center and its European service remind us of good reflexes to avoid mishaps.

Accommodation: beware of (too) tempting offers

For the crooks, international events are a godsend. This is the perfect opportunity for them to offer “fake accommodation”. To seduce you, they put ads online that are too good to be true, at an unbeatable price.

So, to avoid being trapped : book preferably on renowned online platforms; compare prices and cancellation conditions; check if the photos do not correspond to another ad and the geographical location; contact the advertiser directly and ask for a written description of the accommodation; do not pay money if you are not sure who the owner is; make sure you are on a secure site before paying online.

Consider the ecological sticker for your car

Of the ten German cities hosting Euro 2024 football matches, nine have set up an “Umweltzone”. These environmental zones prohibit access to the most polluting vehicles like the ZFE-mobility in France.

To travel in the cities of Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt-Main, Gelsenkirchen, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Munich, your car must have an “Umweltplakette 4”. This green sticker is mandatory for all German and foreign vehicles.

Travel by train

If you intend to travel by train in Germanyyou have the choice. ICE, equivalent to TGVs, are the fastest trains but also the most expensive.

As for regional trains (RB, RE, IRE), they are certainly more economical but your journey will be longer. But whatever decision you make, you will likely have one or more changes. In order to compensate for possible delays and avoid a stressful platform change, it is recommended to opt for a connection of at least 45 minutes.
In the event of cancellation or delay of your train, find your rights at a glance using the digital tool of the European Consumer Center France: Traveling by train: your rights (europe-consommateurs.eu)

Good to know
On German high-speed trains, seat reservations are not included. This additional option costs €4.90. Find all your rights in Germany on www.cec-zev.eu and all the information on your rights in the different modes of transport on www.europe-consommateurs.eu
