INTERNATIONAL Golo Mori Jazz 2024, which was scheduled to be held on November 16 2024 in Labuan Bajo, NTT, had to be postponed due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki, East Flores, NTT.
This was conveyed by the Main Director of Jazz Gunung Indonesia, Bagas Indyatmono, during a press conference, Monday (11/11) which took place online.
“Indeed, this is a decision that is not easy to take. Just from the title Jazz Gunung Indonesia, we realize that apart from giving us blessings, this mountain is also a reminder that maybe we should break for a moment and empathize with the situation,” said Bagas to the media.

Even though the organizers have completed 80 percent of their preparations, according to Bagas, the decision to postpone the 2024 International Golo Mori Jazz event was also to prioritize the safety of visitors, the production team and all related parties.
“Preparations are 80 percent complete at the event location. The stands have started to be built, the sound system has arrived there. “But we took this decision more quickly so that the mitigation process could run better,” he explained.
GM of The Golo Mori, Aji Munarwiyanto, on the same occasion also added that in fact the venue for the International Golo Mori Jazz event was not directly affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki. This cancellation, he said,

“So actually there was no direct impact on Golo Mori. “Conditions there are normal activities, but visually it’s a little foggy, so normally Labuan Bajo, which is bright, is now a bit foggy, this is the influence of volcanic ash,” he explained.
Under these conditions, he continued, local people are also required to wear masks while in Labuan Bajo.
Aji emphasized that the cancellation of the 2024 International Golo Mori Jazz event was also due to disruption of connectivity in Labuan Bajo due to volcanic ash.

“Yesterday there was another eruption. The wind is to the North-West so that it disturbs the flight until 2-3 days now Labuan Bajo airport is still closed. We hope this condition passes quickly.
Meanwhile, a representative from InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Inka Sulistya, added that her party predicts that the International Golo Mori Jazz Festival will take place in the first quarter of 2025.
“God willing, we will continue to be committed to holding this event. We don’t know about the Mount Merapi disaster. Now it erupts, a week later we don’t know. God willing, in the first quarter of 2025 we will hold this event. “Hopefully it will be better,” he concluded. (Nov)

**Interview with Bagas Indyatmono, Main Director of Jazz Gunung Indonesia**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Bagas. Let’s dive right in. The postponement of the International Golo Mori Jazz 2024 must have been a tough decision. Can you tell us about the circumstances that led to this decision?
**Bagas Indyatmono:** Thank you for having me. Yes, it was indeed a difficult choice. We were scheduled to host the event on November 16, 2024, in Labuan Bajo. However, the recent eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki has created a situation where safety is our utmost priority. We felt it was necessary to pause the event to ensure the well-being of all attendees, our production team, and everyone involved.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned that preparations were already 80% complete. Can you elaborate on the activities that were in progress before the postponement?
**Bagas Indyatmono:** Absolutely. We had made significant progress; the stands were being constructed, and our sound system had already arrived on site. Everything was aligned for a fantastic event. However, we recognized the need to adapt to the current situation for safety reasons. Although the venue itself wasn’t directly affected, we wanted to ensure a smooth mitigation process moving forward.
**Interviewer:** In your official statement, you mentioned a broader perspective on the event’s timing. What do you mean by needing to “break for a moment and empathize with the situation”?
**Bagas Indyatmono:** The essence of Jazz Gunung Indonesia is to celebrate not just the music, but also the natural landscapes that inspire it. While the mountain symbolizes beauty and blessings, it’s also essential to acknowledge when nature poses challenges. This moment allows us to reflect on the impact of natural events and to prioritize our community’s safety over event logistics.
**Interviewer:** That’s a thoughtful perspective. Do you have any plans on when the event might be rescheduled?
**Bagas Indyatmono:** While specifics are still being finalized, we certainly aim to hold the International Golo Mori Jazz event in early 2025. We will keep our audience posted as we continue to monitor the situation and ensure it’s safe to move forward.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Bagas, for sharing these insights. We appreciate your commitment to safety and the community. We’re looking forward to the Golo Mori Jazz event once it’s rescheduled!
**Bagas Indyatmono:** Thank you for having me. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support during this time, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to a safe and joyous event in the near future.
