Prensa Libre strengthens its Opinion section with new columnists

Free press continues in constant renewal and today strengthens its Opinion section with the incorporation of nine leaders from various business, social and academic sectors with a track record in their respective fields. They join the already recognized group of columnists, with whom 39 different firms will be completed that will offer our audience a comprehensive view of the country and the world every day.

The arrival of the new opinion columnists and the continuity of the current ones is done with the objective of giving one more step in the consolidation of the leadership of Free press As the most relevant means of communication in Guatemala and Central America, providing a space for the exposition of ideas, with varied and relevant opinions. that shed light on different issues of national and international reality, with responsible arguments.

The change, which takes place within the framework of the 73rd anniversary of Prensa Libre —founded on August 20, 1951— It is part of a living project of constant renewal and modernization that has as its main axis the active listening of our audiences.in this case, the one that demands in the media spaces for the exchange of ideas and the free exercise of freedom of expression enshrined in the Guatemalan Constitution.

Expert look

Also starting this week A new strategy will be implemented to disseminate the 34 opinion columns that are published each week in this newspaper.both in print and digital versions, so that our audience has multiple ways of accessing the opinions expressed by our columnists, but above all for readers to participate in the dialogue through their opinions and comments on social media and emails.

The launch campaign for this new stage has the slogan “Expert look”The first term confirms that Prensa Libre’s columnists not only observe, but also analyze and delve into the issues. The term “expert” was also chosen because the opinions offered are not superficial, but well-founded and backed by the experience and knowledge of each of the columnists.

Free press seeks to position its columnists as reliable voices on issues of political, economic and social relevance, both nationally and internationally.

We are aware that the public expects to read, listen to and see interesting, useful and current topics for their daily lives. Consequently, we do our best to choose columnists and writers who make people think, who disturb, who educate, who inform and who entertain. They take this task seriously, adhering to the decorum and standards established by the Royal Spanish Academy.

The editorial policy, which is communicated to all our columnists, does not impose any conditions on the topics that experts can address in their columns, as long as they respect their readers. The only restriction in force is the one related to party and electoral politics, since the opinion spaces of Free press They cannot accommodate propaganda from parties or candidates competing in any electoral process or preparing to do so.

Qualified voices

A characteristic of the range of opinion columns is the diversity of voices, both due to the variety of professions and sectors in which the columnists work, and due to the different political spectrums represented among moderates, conservatives, libertarians and progressives.

The additions will be noticeable from today, as the internationalist and former Vice-Chancellor Luis Fernando Andrade Falla joins the Sunday edition; the internationalist and political analyst Roberto Wagner; the master in Global Marketing, Pedro Cruz, and the engineer and consultant in Development, Carlos R. Paredes. The purpose of publishing on that day is to offer their expert vision of Guatemala and the world, in an issue that contains high added value with the weekly edition of The New York Times and D Magazine.

Mondays will also see a significant change, as the renowned columns of journalist and academic Mario Antonio Sandoval, and those of business leaders Juan Carlos Zapata and José Santiago Molina, will be joined by academic researcher and former Minister of Education María del Carmen Aceña; the expert in macroeconomics and financial systems Mario Alberto García Lara, and the constitutional lawyer Mario Fuentes Destarac.

Wednesdays will also have new features with the arrival of reliable analysis and opinions from lawyer, writer and historian Roberto Ardón, and the qualified voice on economics, banking, finance and politics of José Alejandro Arévalo.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will continue without any major changes, as the offer of expert voices is already robust due to the quality of the columnists, and broad due to the diversity of sectors and lines of thought they represent.
