The Premier League announces a new agreement on TV rights for its championship for a record amount of 6.7 billion pounds sterling (7.4 billion francs) over four years, starting from the 2025/26 season.
The current contract (2022/2025), the highest among the major national football championships, is estimated at 5 billion pounds over 3 years. Broken down over one season, TV rights therefore remain relatively stable, going from 1.66 billion pounds on average per season to 1.67 billion for the new agreement. In addition, future rights relate to a greater number of matches broadcast.
For the first time, all matches on a championship day will be broadcast live with the exception of the Saturday 3:00 p.m. slot (not broadcast to encourage stadium attendance).
BBC retains rights
Broadcasters Sky Sports and TNT Sports retained their rights to broadcast live matches. Amazon, which had participated in the previous call for tenders, did not win a lot this time.
BBC Sport has retained the rights to its flagship program “Match of the Day”, which presents the highlights of each day of the championship.
