Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola hopes that top scorer Erling Haaland will be able to participate against Liverpool tomorrow, Saturday, in a summit between the leaders of the English Premier League and its direct rivals, after he was excluded from the Norway squad during the international break.
Haaland injured his ankle during Norway’s 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands on November 16 and returned to City to receive treatment and missed Norway’s match against Scotland.
Haaland tops the list of top scorers in the Premier League this season with 13 goals, three goals behind Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Liverpool player.
Guardiola told reporters on Friday: “He trained despite some pain (yesterday, Thursday). We hope he can train today and we will see. We have some problems like many clubs. We will see in the training session and on Saturday. This is always the first plan.”…
City leads the league with 28 points from 12 matches, one point behind Liverpool, led by coach Jurgen Klopp, who has not lost in the last five league matches.
Guardiola had some kind words for the Liverpool coach.
The Spanish coach said: “I think we are all friends. We know each other well. Time passes, of course. Jurgen spent eight years at Liverpool and of course he no longer has the same players who were with him in the beginning. He has rebuilt the team.”
“Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool player) can play deep or wide. But the idea is largely the same. They have always been our strong rivals in some seasons… a great club and team. We are looking forward to this meeting.”
Only three points separate the top five teams in an intense title struggle.
