According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong, following discovering human bones, the biggest difficulty is determining race, because the data is only a tooth and the remains of children.
Because of this, a year following discovering traces of prehistoric people, Mr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong and the Vietnam Institute of Archeology and the Vietnam Museum of Nature continued to excavate some areas inside the cave. moved and discovered 10 other sets of remains.
“Among these 10 sets of remains, there is one full set of skulls and limbs, regarding 1m83 high and considered the most beautiful. In the near future, we will propose to reconstruct the image. 3D from this skeleton, put it back into the area where the remains were discovered so that scientists, people, and foreign tourists can also come to admire and learn,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong.
Conserve culture associated with tourism development
At the present time, scientists have found stone artifacts in some caves of the Krong No volcanic cave system. This is the basis for scientists to believe in the possibility of prehistoric people living in many different caves in Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.
“We need to understand that in order to study a culture, we need to know who the owner of that culture is? Certainly in the future, along with learning regarding volcanic caves, combined with the development of science, can we know who they are, where they come from?” – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong emphasized.
Explaining why prehistoric people chose to live in volcanic caves, paleontologist Nguyen Lan Cuong said that volcanic caves were formed thousands of years ago. However, regarding 6,000 years ago, the old crater collapsed, forming a secondary cave. Prehistoric people went through that secondary cave to go inside and live.
“We can clearly feel that the temperature outside the cave is very hot, but when we go inside, it is very cool, so perhaps his father chose to go inside the cave to live. In the process of living inside. cave, they catch snails in the stream to eat and leave their shells around. It is the calcium in the snails that hardens human bones and transforms the soil so that until today, researchers have precious artifacts and relics. , serving scientific research”, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong.
In November 2022, Dak Nong province hosted the 20th International Conference on Volcanic Caves – ISV20. This is an international scientific event regarding caves held for the first time in Vietnam, thereby affirming the determination to preserve and rationally use heritage values, especially local heritages. matter.
Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Muoi emphasized that volcanic caves are a valuable geological heritage that Dak Nong province and some other localities in Vietnam own. The ISV20 conference is a good opportunity for Dak Nong province to introduce and promote the system of volcanoes and volcanic caves – geological heritages that have existed for thousands of years. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for Dak Nong province to learn experiences to sustainably exploit the heritage and serve local socio-economic development.
