Pregnant ex-employee of Man City sentenced to 18 months in prison. She stole £104,000 from the club’s coffers to pay for her own wedding

Ex-employee “Manchester city” sentenced to 18 months in prison for embezzlement from the club’s treasury.

The verdict was announced at a court hearing on Monday, during which 33-year-old Fiona Barclay from Scotland pleaded guilty. The ex-employee of Manchester City, who is currently expecting a child, will spend half of her term in custody.

Barclay worked at Manchester City as a business development manager. Last March, following a £25,000 suspicious transaction was discovered in the club’s accounting department, she was sacked from the club following an internal investigation. Further investigation showed that money had been withdrawn from the club’s coffers since 2019.

In total, Barclay withdrew 104 thousand pounds from the club’s treasury, of which 15 thousand, by his own admission, later returned to the club. According to her, she used the money received to pay for her wedding, and also bought gifts for her husband and family.
