With the work “Wine and Love” by the Aegean composer Sakis Papadimitriou with ancient lyrical poetry set to music, which is a landmark and at the same time a point of reference for wine as an axis of culture, the institution “Oinoxenia 2024” makes its avant premiere on Wednesday, August 21 at 8.30 p.m. at the emblematic Castle of Rio, thus marking the central message of this year’s event which is “Vineyards-Bridges”.
Songs about Dionysus and Aphrodite, by Anacreon, Sappho, Alcaeus and other lyricists who gave birth to the Theater and were heard in ancient Greek theaters, traveling and subsequently influencing all Western Civilization, will be heard 2,500 years later in a performance with special charge, which make it a unique pan-Hellenic cultural event.
The choice of the Castle of Rio is full of strong symbolism, as it is the most important tristrato of Western Greece, at the entrance of the Corinthian Gulf, next to the Rio-Antirio Bridge, built in the 16th century, on the ruins of the temple of Poseidon and surrounded by sea trenches.
The performer will be the great Vassilis Lekkas, together with the “Idyphono” orchestra (artistic ensemble of the Aegis Music Workshop) with:

This year’s “Oinoxenia” Festival comes for the 11th year to fill Aegialia and Kalavryta with sounds, tastes, aromas, gastronomy, wine, art and culture. A multitude of events will bridge the cities with the countryside, the mountain villages with the seaside zone of Aegialia, proving that culture, innovation, cooperation and creativity are not only a quality of the big cities. From August 21 to 31, the doors and windows of the Inns open wide, welcoming visitors and residents to a rich festive ten days.
The Wine Quality Network, the Municipality of Aegialia, the Region of Western Greece, Achaia Development SA, the Chamber of Achaia, the University of Patras, the Council of Europe ITER VITIS Wine Cultural Route, the Konstantakopoulos Foundation/Costa Navarino, as well as the Koutsochera Foundation, together with the Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece and the Municipality of Kalavryta join forces and support the great Festival of Achaia and the Northern Peloponnese.
