Due to the abundant rain observed in recent days, the Haute Semois, the Moyenne Semois and the Vierre were on pre-flood alert on Thursday, according to the latest update of the Hydrometry portal of the Public Service of Wallonia (SPW). The rest of Walloon territory remains in the “normal” phase, while a new line of more intense showers will sprinkle the country on Thursday evening, warns the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM).
The SPW recommends “remaining cautious near areas of concentration of rain, small rivers, and at the head of the basin”.
In the north of the country, in West Flanders, the provincial crisis management plan was activated due to the showers announced by the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). “We expect intense precipitation during the night from Thursday to Friday, which might cause the Yser catchment area to overflow,” commented the firefighters.
