Washington DC: The Catholic Church in America to pray a novena on the 51st anniversary of Roe v Wade’s 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized feticide. The Novena is for nine days from January 16 to 22.

A strong fight is necessary to protect the many babies and their mothers who are still losing their lives today due to the legalization of feticide. The Bishop said that everyone should pray for the protection of the right to life of the children who lost their lives through feticide.

The novena is led by the Pro-Life Activities Committee under the US Catholic Bishops Conference. January 22 will also be observed as a special prayer day.

This kind of novena was first started in 2013 in connection with the fortieth anniversary of the controversial verdict. In addition to the Novena, a special pro-life march called ‘March for Life’ is also being organised. This march, which started in 1974, was first in Washington and later spread across the United States.

Prayer is done on nine days separately. Pro-Life members can share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #9DaysforLife.

This law was partially repealed in 2022 as a result of constant prayers and protests. The Supreme Court ordered in 2022 that the power to rule on feticide cases be given to judges and legislators in each state.

The Bishop exhorted everyone to pray more fervently for the full repeal of this law, saying that just because states can decide, it does not stop feticide. The bishop added that the main objective of this year’s novena is to eradicate feticide.

Following persistent protests by the Catholic Church in America, 14 states have completely banned feticide following June 2022. The states of Georgia and South Carolina have enacted bans on feticide following six weeks. About nine states have begun to legislate once morest feticide.

US bishops have also criticized surrogacy following the Pope’s call. The bishops pointed out that surrogacy destroys the dignity of life. In his speech on January 8, the Pope strongly criticized surrogacy and urged everyone to work hard to ban it.

The Pope criticized that every child is a gift of God and that the birth of a child through an agreement for any selfish gain is an insult to God’s gift. U.S. Catholic bishops say surrogacy is once morest morality and will never be accepted.
