Jakarta Gubernatorial Election Praised for Transparency
Pramono Anung, candidate for Jakarta governor, lauded the transparent vote tabulation process carried out by the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPKU). His team is now awaiting the official results.
“Firstly, we understand that the transparency shown by the Jakarta KPU has been excellent,” Pramono stated in Jakarta on Sunday, December 8th.
He explained that the KPU’s calculations closely matched the quick count results already released. “Furthermore, until yesterday, Sirekap and subsequent calculations weren’t significantly different, meaning the numbers remained consistent,” he added.
Pramono emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum for future gubernatorial elections.
“Striving for continued transparency, openness, and easy accessibility will ensure everyone can access the information smoothly,” he stressed.
He acknowledged that dissenting opinions might arise from other parties. Pramono’s statement followed the legal team of the first pair of candidates, Ridwan Kamil and Suswono, filing a complaint with the Indonesian Election Supervisory Board concerning the KPU’s tabulation.
However, the former Cabinet Secretary under President Joko Widodo emphasized the need for a peaceful conclusion to the process. He expressed his desire for the Jakarta gubernatorial election to serve as a model for other regions.
“If disagreements persist, that’s understandable. This is a democratic country. I respect and appreciate the efforts made to clarify procedures in choosing Jakarta’s governor, ” Pramono stressed.
He believes the careful and transparent execution of this election could set a positive precedent for future elections across Indonesia.
“For me personally, the Jakarta gubernatorial election should be a role model. It’s been celebrated with optimism, transparency, openness. It’s the first time in Jakarta’s gubernatorial election history that tensions haven’t run high,” concluded Pramono.
What specific measures were implemented by the Jakarta KPU to ensure transparency in the vote counting process?
