The Italian company will work with another company, Axiom Space, to combine their materials and manufacturing expertise, reports BBC News.
Astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman believes Prada will be able to meet the challenge because of its experience in designing nautical suits, in particular.
“Prada has considerable experience with several types of composite materials and might make real technical contributions to the outer layers of the new suit,” he explains.
However, the new equipment will not be extravagant, according to Mr. Hoffman.
“A spacesuit is a bit like a miniature spaceship,” he continues. Maintaining a good thermal environment is really what is most important.”
The suits are expected to be used for the first time in 2025 during the Artemis 3 mission, which is expected to mark the first visit by humans to the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.
