PLAN for a meeting between president-elect Prabowo Subianto and PDIP chair Megawati Soekarnoputri is increasingly emerging. Executive Director of the Institute for Democracy and Strategic Affairs (Indostrategic) Ahmad Khoirul Umam assessed that Prabowo will most likely offer a ministerial seat to Megawati.

However, Umam said, if we look at Megawati’s political stance when she lost in the 2004 and 2009 presidential elections, it is very likely that Megawati will not take it.

“Moreover, there is political resistance to Gibran’s presence as Prabowo’s Vice President,” Umam explained to Media Indonesia, Wednesday (18/9).

“However, the possibility of PDIP accepting the ministerial seat offer is still open, along with the ability and persistence of PDIP cadres to convince Megawati,” he added.

Umam said that this was especially the need for legal protection after he was no longer in the circle of power.

So Be a Communication Bridge

In addition, the planned meeting between Prabowo and Megawati could be an effective bridge of political communication to facilitate the transition of the new government.

From the start, said Umam, Prabowo and Megawati had relatively no communication barriers whatsoever.

Even according to speculative information, when there was a large demonstration rejecting the revision of the Regional Election Law, it was reported that there was communication contact between Prabowo and Megawati.

“If the meeting plan is successfully implemented, this step will be a space for negotiation and at the same time a compromise of economic-political interests between the two figures,” he said. (Z-9)
