THE number of ministries in the government of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka is certain to be greater than at present. Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Gerindra Party Ahmad Muzani said a fat cabinet would be more effective.

Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Faction, Santoso, said that the cabinet design designed by Prabowo-Gibran would certainly continue what Indonesian President Joko Widodo had done.

“By fixing the shortcomings and completing them to be even better. So that the size of the cabinet composition is not a measure of efficiency or not, but reflects that the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet is a representation of the efforts of RI 1 and RI 2 to further improve what Mr. Jokowi has achieved,” Santoso explained to Media Indonesia, Wednesday (18/9).

Regarding the number of members of the future government cabinet, Santoso said that it was not regulated in the Ministry Law. However, the future cabinet is required to be efficient, flexible and effective in order to improve public services and welfare.

“In the Ministry Law, the number of cabinet members is left to the elected president to determine in accordance with the principles of presidential government,” Santoso emphasized.

Previously, a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Indonesia, Reni Suwarso, assessed that if viewed from various aspects, a fat cabinet only benefits and enriches political parties.

“It is detrimental to the president because in reality the president has never received total party loyalty. And it is clearly very detrimental to the people because it is costly and ineffective,” Reni emphasized to Media Indonesia, Tuesday (17/9).

“The case in Jokowi’s cabinet shows that the misappropriation of policies, programs and state budget funds actually involved ministers representing parties,” he added.

Reni assessed that the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) did not learn from the experience of the Pilkada Bill and the TNI/Polri Bill. According to her, the final draft of the results of the discussion of the revision of Law Number 39 of 2008 concerning the State Ministry was very rushed and unnecessary.

“It is clear that the bill is not included in the prolegnas. This leaves suspicions that there is horse trading politics in the DPR between members and party leaders so that they can get a quota in the new Cabinet,” he explained. (Ykb/M-4)
