The United Development Party (PPP) has ignored demands to expedite the Congress to be held in 2024. It has been confirmed that the Congress will still be held in 2025.
“So the congress already has a mechanism in the Articles of Association/Bylaws to be held every five years,” said PPP DPP Chairman Achmad Baidowi alias Awiek at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday (3/7).
Awiek said the congress schedule could actually be changed through the National Working Conference. Meanwhile, the party with the Kaaba logo has not held a National Working Conference.
“So if there is indeed a proposal to change the time of the congress according to Article 60 of the PPP Bylaws, it is indeed stated that the scope is in the national working conference, until now there has been no national working conference,” he explained.
Awiek considered the pressure to speed up the Congress as merely a dynamic within the organization. The situation was seen as part of democracy.
“Then there are proposals that are part of the dynamics of the organization, it’s called politics, it’s just ordinary people making proposals, that’s democracy, let alone political parties. So every time there is a proposal, it’s valid, even if the proposal is through an official forum,” said Awiek.

Previously, the PPP Council wrote to Mardiono. There are seven points in the letter dated May 1, 2024.
In one of the points, he asked the PPP to hold a Congress in 2024. This was in response to the PPP’s failure to pass into the DPR.
“Therefore, we request that the Congress be held in 2024, no later than three months after this letter is received,” the letter read as received by Medcom.id, Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
On another point, the PPP Assembly expressed its deep concern for not passing to Senayan. This is the first time this has happened in the 11 times PPP has participated in the Election.
The PPP Assembly also felt that it had not received an apology from the PPP management. In addition, Mardiono’s capacity as Acting General Chairman of the PPP was questioned. Because, the acting position is not permanent. (Z-8)
