The Ministry of Sports, through the competent Deputy Minister Yiannis Vroutsis, and the Organizing Committee of Cycling Greece, have planned an event of enormous scope that will cross from north to south the “backbone” of the country, with Thessaloniki as the starting city (May 15) and Athens as the finishing city (May 19, Acropolis – Kallimarmaro), aspiring to contribute as much as possible to the spread of the sport of cycling, to the consolidation of cycling awareness and to the promotion of Greece as an ideal destination for major global sporting events and sports tourism.

The President of the Cycling Greece Organizing Committee Giorgos Leventakis said: “The organization of the PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024 is one of the most emblematic events of the country, which primarily aims to promote Greece abroad.
It attracts publicity and tourism to the amazing – and to many hitherto unknown – Greek destinations, both abroad and at home. The PPC International Cycling Tour of Greece 2024 also aspires, through the 20 invited teams, to pass on to the consciousness of the cycling public the desire to visit our country, so that they can cycle in the locations that the competitors will have traveled.
It brings significant benefits to employment, the local economy, local communities and throughout the Greek Region.
At the same time, through the games, our vast inexhaustible cultural heritage is displayed. We constantly highlight the value of engaging in sports through the rich parallel actions for our youth. We inspire families to turn their children to a noble ecological sport. We are passing on messages promoting health, and the philosophy of “well-being”, which we have inherited through Greece’s long-standing tradition of sports, competitiveness and noble rivalry”.
The PPC International Cycling Tour 2024 exceeds the size of a global event. It is a comprehensive experience of competitive routes, sports tourism, strengthening the love for cycling and the sports lifestyle, activation of local communities, respect for fellow human beings for the environment. The Executive Director of Cycling Greece, Nikos Giannakakos, said: “The PPC International Cycling Tour 2024 is a five-day international event that, with the initiative of the Minister of Sports, Mr. Yannis Vroutsis and the coordinated actions of our team at Cycling Greece, will give the opportunity to millions viewers in more than 150 countries, through the global distribution of the TV signal, to enjoy 5 days of racing cycling of a very high level.
In this year’s route that will unite the European City of Sports, Thessaloniki, with the capital, Athens, on a route of approximately 800 kilometers, of unique natural beauty, the 120 professional athletes from all over the world with their 20 teams will claim the blue jersey of the general ranking between 15 and 19 May 2024.
In the context of the social responsibility of Cycling Greece, with our Paralympian Nikos Papagelis as Ambassador, the inclusion of people with disabilities in sports is at the center, highlighting the actions that embrace our fellow human beings every day, so that they are equal members of society at every level.
Also, for the needs of the race but mainly for the beauty of the participation, with the World Champion and Vice-Regional Governor of Attica Mrs. Vassiliki Millousis as Volunteer Ambassador, the PPC International Cycling Tour 2024 will have a strong volunteer presence and promises to give unique moments to all participants .
The parallel educational and entertainment activities that will frame the race throughout its route in the start and finish cities, will give the opportunity to young and old to get closer to cycling and enjoy the festive atmosphere combined with the racing action.
Finally, the start of the 5th ETAP, on May 19, in the area of the Acropolis, with a unique route on the Athenian Riviera, 10 spectacular turns in the circuit of the center of Athens and a finish in the area of the “Kallimarmaros” of the Panathenaic Stadium, will be a first class opportunity for everyone to admire the athletes’ efforts up close.
