ASUS has just announced the world’s first Chromebook Plus with the powerful Intel Core Ultra 7 processor. Named ASUS ExpertBook CX54, the notebook features a metal design, ensuring a premium and durable experience at just 16.9 mm thick and weight of 1.3 kg.
The Chromebook Plus’ body is MIL-STD 810H certified, which ensures it can withstand some drops and accidental spills.
Still talking about its format, the screen is a 14-inch IPS LCD in a 16:10 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, a brightness of 500 nits, anti-reflective coating, 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 range and support for stylus pens and optional touchscreen.
Processing power is provided by the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U 1.3GHz with 12 cores up to 4.3GHz, 12 MB cache and integrated Iris Xe GPU, but there are versions with the Intel Core Ultra 7. RAM is 6,400 MHz LPDDR5X with 8 GB and 16 GB options, while storage is 128 GB or 512 GB on M.2 SSD.
To provide greater security, the ASUS ExpertBook CX54 comes equipped with a Titan C chip and fingerprint sensor for quick unlocking of the Chromebook. The webcam is 8 MP with 1080p video support and a privacy shutter that covers the sensor while it is not in use.
The keyboard is backlit with a 1.4mm deep keypad. The connections are as follows:
- Two USB-A 3.2 2nd generation ports
- Two Thunderbolt 4 inputs with support for image output and charging
- One HDMI 2.1 port
- One 3.5mm audio output
- A microSD card reader
- WiFi 6E (ax)
- Bluetooth
- 45W USB-C charging
The battery is 63 Wh made up of three lithium-ion cells. Unfortunately, ASUS has not yet revealed pricing and availability for the ASUS ExpertBook CX54, but it is expected to launch in Europe in the coming weeks. There is no forecast of availability for Brazil.
For those who prefer Windows, ASUS recently launched the ZenBook 14 OLED with the same processor and up to 15 hours of battery life.
