Powerball ticket wins $1 million and the grand prize is still unclaimed

A lucky Powerball ticket sold in New York has won a $1 million prize, though it fell short of the $202 million jackpot, lottery officials said Sunday.

The drawing took place on Saturday, August 10, and the winning ticket matched five of the main numbers, coming within a whisker of winning the grand prize. The winning numbers were 9, 24, 33, 64 and 69, while the Powerball was 9 and the Power Play was set at 2.

Although no one won the jackpot, which has now grown to an estimated $212 million with a cash value of $105.5 million, more than 590,000 tickets sold across the United States resulted in prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000.

Jackpot

The Powerball jackpot has remained unclaimed since July 3, when an Ohio player won a $139.3 million prize.

Next draw

The next drawing is scheduled for Monday, August 12, and players are already gearing up to try and win the big prize. It should be noted that to win the jackpot, a player must match all five white balls along with the red Powerball ball, a feat with a probability of 1 in 292,201,338.

Powerball tickets can be purchased on the day of the drawing, although sales times and prices vary by state. Drawings are broadcast live on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time, and can also be followed online.

Powerball is a popular game in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, making it one of the biggest and most anticipated drawings in the country. Meanwhile, players are anxiously waiting to see if the next drawing will finally bring a grand prize winner.
