Powerball Jackpot 2023: Record-Breaking $1 Billion Prize & Lottery History

2023-09-27 23:52:41

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is reaching nearly $1 billion, making it a highly coveted ticket. The Powerball annuity jackpot estimate reached a new high of $850 million after no winning tickets were sold for the $793.6 million grand prize on Monday night.

The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday is worth a cash value of $397.4 million, making it the 17th largest cash value prize in U.S. lottery history.

Wednesday’s Powerball lottery jackpot is the 9th highest in history (Mega Millions and Powerball together) and the 4th largest Powerball jackpot ever recorded after no winner Monday night.

The winning numbers for Monday, Sept. 25, were 10, 12, 22, 36, and 50. The Powerball number was 4, and the Power Play number was 2.

Four players matched the first five numbers in Monday’s jackpot draw, but none won the grand prize. The lucky players, three from Florida and one from Oregon won a million-dollar prize each. None of the second-prize winners opted for the Power Play feature, which would have doubled their prize money to $2 million.

In the Monday drawing, 38 tickets matched four white numbers and the Powerball, making them eligible to win $50,000. Of these 38 tickets, 6 had the Power Play option added to them, increasing the prize money to $100,000. Additionally, two of the winning tickets were purchased in California, where the prize was worth $43,646 in this particular drawing.

After Monday’s drawing, Powerball’s annuity jackpot estimate and cash value were raised by $41.4 million and $19.4 million, respectively. The new figures are now $850 million and $397.4 million.

On Nov. 7, 2022, the biggest Powerball jackpot in history was awarded to a single ticket sold in California, amounting to a grand prize of $2 billion. The fortunate individual who won this massive amount was Edwin Castro, who claimed his prize in February of 2023. Despite being in the media spotlight, he chose to keep his personal information private. Information available on Castro is limited to public filings, including purchases of three houses and dubious lawsuits.

Powerball is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands with drawings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $2 each.
