According to the source, the management of the German club is searching for a possible successor to Alonso, in whom Bayern and Liverpool are showing serious interest. Leverkusen’s shortlist includes more than 20 potential candidates, led by Raul and Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.

Since 2019, Raul has led Castilla, the second team of Real Madrid. In the first season, he won the Youth Champions League with his players, and last year he was one step away from leading the team to the Segunda Division. During this season, it was reported that Raúl was in talks with Villarreal and Union Berlin.

Hoeness took charge of Stuttgart in April 2023. Last season, the 41-year-old specialist saved the team from relegation to the Second Bundesliga, and this season he can lead them to the Champions League. At the moment, the Swabians are in third place in the Bundesliga.

At the same time, Bayer still wants to continue cooperation with Xabi Alonso and hopes that he will remain at the club for another season. A search for a new specialist is being conducted in case the Spaniard decides to leave the club this coming summer.

Xabi Alonso will take charge of Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022. Leverkusen have not lost a single match this season and can become German champions for the first time in their history. Ten rounds before the end of the championship, Bayer is ten points ahead of Bayern.
