Potential Mavericks-Pistons Trade: Bojan Bogdanovic and Killian Hayes on the Table

It’s officially mid-July and the major offseason deals are now behind us. Still, that’s not stopping some franchises from discussing a transfer. Like the Mavericks and the Pistons, with Bojan Bogdanovic and a certain Killian Hayes in the lot.

A few days ago, the Mavericks managed to recruit former Celtic Grant Williams via a sign & trade, with the involvement of Boston therefore but also Spurs. A three-way deal that might have turned into a four-way with the involvement of the Detroit Pistons if we are to believe The Athletic.

In effect, according to insider Tim Catothe Mavs and Pistons discussed a potential transfer that would send Bojan Bogdanovic and Killian Hayes to Dallas, with Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee leaving the Texas franchise.

The Pistons and Mavericks discussed a trade centered around Bojan Bogdanović, Killian Hayes, Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee, per @tim_cato

This is not the first time that we hear the name of Bojan Bogdanovic being associated with the Mavericks, he who was already on the shelves of Dallas during the last trade deadline and even before. On the other hand, this is the first time that we have heard of a scenario in which the Frenchie Killian Hayes would go to Texas.

Even if the deal did not materialize, we inevitably have questions regarding Kiki’s future in Detroit, especially since the Mavs might return to the charge for Bojan in the future. After three seasons in Michigan, do the Pistons still believe in the Killian Hayes project? With the presence of the Cade Cunningham – Jaden Ivey duo on the backcourt and the arrival of veteran point guard Monte Morris in Detroit, has the time come for Killian?

This season, the 21-year-old Frenchman – selected in 7th position in the 2020 Draft – dropped his career-best stats with 10.3 points, 6.2 assists and 1.4 interceptions on average, but still shooting percentages weaklings (37.7% shooting, 28% 3-pointers). Hayes started the season as a substitute behind the Cade-Ivey duo, before “taking advantage” of Cunningham’s injury to find the five and drop some good performances. But with Cade expected to return, Kiki is destined to return to the bench. Or another team, he who will be a restricted free agent in 2024…
