Potential Increase in Price Ceilings for TGV Tickets with Advantage Card: Latest Update by SNCF Voyageurs

2023-07-08 08:23:39

The boss of TGV-Intercités, Alain Krakovitch, guest of RMC’s Matinale Week-End this Saturday, announced that an increase in the price ceilings for tickets with an Avantage card is under consideration for the end of the summer. .

The price of your train ticket may soon increase. The director of the TGV-Intercités networks at SNCF Voyageurs, Alain Krakovitch, explained in RMC’s Matinale Week-End that the railway company is “thinking” regarding raising the ceiling on the price of TGV tickets with a Advantage cardwhile explaining that no “decision has been taken on this subject”.

This allows, since its launch in June 2021, to travel, in second class, for a maximum of 39 euros for a journey of less than 1h30, 59 euros for a journey between 1h30 and three hours, and 79 euros for a journey of more than three hours. Several media evoked, Friday, an increase of ten euros of these tariffs.

Increase in costs and purchase of trains

To justify such a possibility, Alain Krakovitch evokes the increase in costs (+13% between 2022 and 2023, according to him, “because of inflation and particularly that of energy”) and the need for SNCF to “release profits if we want to be able to buy trains.”

“We want to continue to (buy trains) even more. We also want to extend the life of our trains. This is the best solution to lower prices.”

SNCF limited the increase in ticket prices, until the end of the summer, to 5%, with a tariff shield and had already announced, at the end of last year, to think regarding an increase at the end of this pricing system.
