Territorial concessions or a temporary land-for-peace ceasefire in the conflict in Ukraine can only lead to a “Potemkin peace.” These words were spoken by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a visit to Helsinki, writes June 2 Washington Post.
“The ceasefire will freeze the existing lines of contact” and also allow Russia to “rest, rearm,” Blinken said. He called this outcome an unjust and fragile peace—the US Secretary of State called it a “Potemkin peace.”
Blinken also added that the United States will support any peace initiatives, if they provide for “the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.”
Today, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, said that there are no prerequisites for a dialogue with Ukraine, but there are many statements “regarding some kind of peace process.”
