THE Shooting sport competition at the 21st National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra is back to normal after being postponed due to extreme weather. The rain that poured down on the competition area at the Rindam Iskandar Muda Shooting Range, Mata Ie, Aceh Besar had damaged the field facilities.

After the incident, thanks to the quick coordination of the General Chairperson of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Marciano Norman, with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the State Electricity Company (PLN), the XXI PON Grand Committee, and the Indonesian Shooting Association (PB. Perbakin), the venue was able to be reused immediately.

Marciano appreciated the efforts of various parties who moved quickly to resolve the problem. The venue was able to be used again and the match went smoothly.

“I also appreciate the organizing committee who remain focused despite being faced with weather dynamics. This shooting range will be the best in Indonesia. God willing, tomorrow all match numbers will be completed according to schedule,” said Marciano on Wednesday (18/9).

He also appealed to the media to appreciate the hard work of all parties involved in the restoration of the venue and the smooth running of PON XXI.

“I ask the media to provide balanced reporting. Don’t just focus on the gutter incident, but also appreciate the efforts of PUPR, PLN, and the committee who have worked hard to ensure the match returns to normal,” he said.

Extreme weather that occurred on September 17, 2024 caused flooding at the shooting venue. However, conditions have recovered, and several match numbers such as reaction shooting, running target, and trap have started on Wednesday (September 18, 2024) at 08.00 WIB.

With solid coordination, all postponed matches have been rescheduled and are expected to finish on time. “Yesterday’s delay has been caught up, and today’s and tomorrow’s matches are going according to plan,” Marciano added. (Z-8)
