For years he stole money sent by mail
A postman helped himself to the envelopes he was supposed to deliver. Fired immediately, he will have to answer for his actions in court

A couple from Küssnacht (SZ) were surprised to receive a letter from the Public Ministry, as well as an envelope that they had sent to a child of their entourage on the occasion of their first communion. But the mail, which notably contained a 20-franc note, never reached its recipient and was returned to the couple, accompanied by a letter of apology from La Poste.
It turns out that, between 2021 and 2023, a postman working in the Küssnacht region opened mail likely to contain money and stole it, reports the “Freier Schweizer”. The injured parties, whose number is not known, were informed by La Poste that various letters had been found at the postman’s home. A criminal complaint has been filed. The man is accused of multiple thefts and repeated violations of postal secrecy. Swiss Post spokesman Stefan Dauner said that “thanks to the good cooperation with the police, we were able to confuse this person at the beginning of May 2023”. The postman was dismissed with immediate effect. The Public Prosecutor’s Office now deals with the criminal aspect.
