Post-traumatic stress disorder treatment, Korean researchers unravel

The scientific principle of a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been identified for the first time in the world by a Korean research team. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) announced that a research team led by Lee Bo-young, a research fellow at the IBS Cognitive and Social Research Center, has identified the principle of the PTSD treatment ‘NYX-783’, which is currently being developed, through animal testing for the first time in the world. PTSD is a mental illness that interferes with daily life by constantly re-experiencing painful memories from serious events such as accidents and disasters.

The research team applied NYX-783 from Aptings, a biotech company that has been in the late phase of a phase 2 clinical trial since December last year, to experimental mice with PTSD, and saw the effect of suppressing the recurrence of fear memories. Researcher Lee said, “We have identified the molecular mechanism of a PTSD treatment for the first time.
