Possible proof of the existence of glueballs announced

Glueballs are hypothetical interactions that occur between gluons, the carriers of the strong nuclear force. Gluons are thought to hold quarks together to form hadrons (such as protons and neutrons) and mesons (particles made up of a quark and an antiquark). It is also assumed that gluons can form particles without the participation of quarks – glueballs.

To look for evidence of glueballs, scientists conducted meson collision experiments at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, located at the Institute of High Energy Physics in Beijing. The researchers were able to analyze 10 billion events collected over the past decade and found evidence of particles with an average mass of 2,395 megaelectronvolts per square second, which is in line with what is expected for glueballs.

However, further research is needed for confirmation as the results are not absolute proof of the existence of glueballs and other interactions might have produced similar results.
