Passengers on tram 7 in Brussels reported a potentially armed man in Brussels on Thursday morning. However, when the police arrived on site, the suspect had already disappeared, indicates the Stib, confirming information from Sudinfo.
“Several passengers saw an armed man, according to them, on tram 7 around 8:30 a.m. this morning“, declared the spokesperson for the Stib. “This happened at the Georges Henri premetro station. We immediately notified the police who arrived on the scene, near the George Henri stop. But in the meantime, the man had already come down. The police then questioned the witnesses. Images from surveillance cameras of the tram and the premetro station were handed over to the police. And tram traffic was interrupted for regarding half an hour“, he punctuates.
“At 8:28 a.m., a suspicious person was reported on tram 7 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, near the George Henri stop, Place Montgomery“, confirms a spokesperson for the federal police. “A man reportedly got off at the Diamant stop in Schaerbeek. The police are doing everything they can to find him“. Sources close to the investigation report, however, that viewing the images recorded by surveillance cameras does not show anything alarming at first glance.
“After events like the one we experienced on Monday (terrorist attack in Brussels, Editor’s note), and when there is a call for increased vigilance, it is not abnormal that we receive more reports“, underlines the federal police. “Every call is taken seriously and investigated, but this does not necessarily mean there is danger or any threat, every time..”
Contacted this Friday, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office confirmed that the investigation is continuing in order to identify the suspect.
