North Dakota’s oil and gas industry had a positive month in June, with both oil and gas production up three percent compared to May. The state also achieved new records in terms of gas capture and the number of active producing wells.
In June, North Dakota produced 1.16 million barrels of oil per day and 3.25 million cubic feet of gas per day. This growth can be attributed to the expansion of the industry beyond the main Bakken area.
The director of the Department of Mineral Resources, Lynn Helms, highlighted that although activity within the main area has remained stagnant, the second level area has shown significant progress. This change in activity has resulted in an increase in production, but has also led to a flat oil-gas ratio.
Helms also cautioned that as production moves further from the center, maintaining high gas capture rates may become more challenging. The distance of gas production facilities near the center might influence the ability to effectively capture the gas.
Overall, North Dakota’s oil and gas industry showed positive growth in June, driven by activity outside of the prime Bakken area. However, maintaining gas capture rates will require careful consideration as production expands further and further from gas production facilities.
