“We are delighted!“It’s difficult for Michel Bouvier to better express the feeling that drives him when he draws the curtain on his chalet at the same time as the year 2023 ends.
The president of the Union of Santon Makers of Provence draws up a particularly positive assessment of this 221st Marseille Santon Fair which ended this Sunday, December 31: “The absence of controls at the entrances to the Fair, on the Quai du Port, made it possible to benefit from a greater mixing than in previous years, he rejoices. In 2022, we had 270,000 visitors; this year, we must have at least 30% more and this is reflected in the turnover figures.“
“Even more entertainment” in 2024?
The manager hopes for a 2024 edition “in the same place, under the same conditions“, with “even more activities, particularly around the making of figurines which was a great success with the children” but also “a little more help from communities to ensure these activities.”
The oldest Santon Fair in France, which is the special feature of Christmas in Marseille, currently benefits from €27,000 in subsidies from the City and €5,000 from the Department.
