A case study published in the March issue of the scientific journal Urology Case Reports reports the condition of a 37-year-old Indonesian man hospitalized with a fractured penis. The culprit for the situation was the “inverted sitting” position, which is responsible for half of hospitalizations for fractures of this type.
The man said he heard a loud popping noise while having sex with his partner, followed by intense pain. At the time of the fracture, she was sitting on top of him, but on her back, and the two were making movements that were described to doctors as “vigorous”.
Just three hours following the incident, the patient was already being referred for surgery. According to the report of the doctors who participated in the procedure, the man still had a dark blue penis, due to the accumulation of blood, three days following the accident.
The swelling and bluish hue of the penis following the fracture led specialist doctors in this type of care to compare the symptom with the appearance of an eggplant. The man had to be hospitalized for five days, but today he has a functional sexual organ.
how it happens
Urologists warn that this position, although not physically demanding, is dangerous as it leaves the erect penis at constant risk of reaching the perineal bones and ending up being ruptured.
In addition to being associated with the intensity of the sexual act, penile fracture is more common among men already in sexual maturity, between 30 and 50 years old.
Although the penis has no bones, serious injuries to it are considered fractures in the medical literature. Technically, what happens is that the cavities that store blood in the limb rupture on impact, causing bleeding and organ deformation, in addition to severe pain. In some cases, accidents can permanently change the shape and even the functioning of the penis.
