Portugal: Thousands of teachers continue to march to demand higher wages | Life

On February 11, thousands of teachers in the Portuguese capital Lisbon took to the streets to participate in the latest march demanding salary increase and better working conditions.

According to the National Federation of Teachers (FENPROF), there are more than 150,000 teachers from all over the country Portugal participated in the march. FENPROF Secretary General Mario Nogueira said this is probably the largest march ever by teachers in the country.

Teachers in Portugal are calling on the government to improve working conditions and better opportunities for promotion, while raising wages at the pace of inflation. They also want to be paid according to actual hours worked.

Before that, this country in southwestern Europe had seen a wave of march and strikes are organized alternately by region. Many schools have had to close due to the impact of the strikes.

The Ministry of Education affirmed the strike movement of the teacher ended at the end of January. It is expected that, next week, education industry leaders will conduct a new round of negotiations with unions to find a solution.
