What is the white card in soccer for?
The purpose of this measure is “improve ethical value in sport”. The idea of this card is publicly acknowledge acts of fair play.
Portugal is the first country to impose this rule in a football match. Although FIFA has been working to implement this initiative internationally, It has not yet ratified the use of said card worldwide.
In addition, the implementation of the white card breaks with the tradition of sanctions in football (yellow and red), which are only shown when there is an act of indiscipline during the game.
