On the morning of March 2, at the 4th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly, the National Assembly held a secret ballot to elect Mr. Vo Van Thuong to hold the position of State President. With the majority of delegates approving, the National Assembly passed a resolution to elect Mr. Vo Van Thuong to hold the position of State President for the 2021-2026 term. From April 2014 to October 2015, was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; From October 2015 to February 2016: re-elected to hold the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; assigned by the Politburo to run the work of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
At the 12th National Party Congress, Mr. Vo Van Thuong was elected to the Party Central Committee. At the First Conference of the Party Central Committee, he was elected to the Politburo.
In February 2016, Mr. Vo Van Thuong was assigned by the Politburo to join the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, holding the position of Head of the Central Propaganda Department.
On January 30, 2021, at the 13th National Party Congress, Mr. Vo Van Thuong was elected a member of the 13th Party Central Committee.
On January 31, 2021, at the 1st Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, Mr. Vo Van Thuong was elected to the 13th Politburo.
On February 5, 2021, in Decision No. 01-QDNS/TW, the Politburo assigned Mr. Vo Van Thuong to hold the position of Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat.
