The ports of Calais and Sète, as well as two transport companies, have formalized a cooperation agreement to facilitate the transport of freight from Turkey to Northern Europe.

On the occasion of the Logitrans International Logistics and Transport Exhibition, which was held in Istanbul, an operational cooperation agreement was ratified on Thursday between the port of Calais, that of Sète and two transport companies DFDS and VIIA to facilitate the transport of freight from Turkey to Northern Europe, in particular thanks to the anticipation of customs formalities.

From Turkey to England in seven days

The project aims to anchor a fast trade route, with goods transported by ship from Turkey to the port of Sète by the DFDS company. They then transit to Calais thanks to the rail highway operated by VIIA, inaugurated last year. Commercial trailers can then reach England using DFDS’ Calais-Sheerness freight line. A journey that lasts seven days, an important time saving compared to the two weeks needed for a road itinerary. Another advantage put forward by the partners, that of less pollution: a trailer traveling by train releasing into the atmosphere one ton less CO2 per thousand kilometers traveled.
