Porsche wants to join Varta directly

The sports car manufacturer Porsche also wants to invest directly in Varta in order to support the ailing German battery manufacturer, which is majority-owned by the Austrian investor Michael Tojner. The plan is not only to take over the majority of Varta’s electric car battery division V4Drive, but also to take a minority stake in Varta AG itself, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” reported on Sunday, citing banking circles.

Porsche wants to subscribe to a capital increase for this purpose. “With this minority stake, Porsche is securing the spin-off process of V4Drive production from the troubled Varta Group,” the report said. Varta initially did not want to comment on this. At the beginning of July it became known that Porsche was prepared to take over a majority stake in V4Drive.
