“Porsche substitute” for $26 thousand: we took the Dongfeng Forthing T5 EVO for a ride

The design was pulled from the world by thread – and, surprisingly, it turned out well.

Chinese crossovers can be eye-catching. If only there was a popular price tag. Dongfeng Forthing T5 EVO satisfies both of these “wants”. It looks bold, many times more expensive than its money. But what is it like inside and how does it drive? Tochka.by journalists found out.

One among the dear ones

We look closely. From a distance, the Chinese crossover’s general features resemble a Porsche Macan. The rear is the spitting image of the Jaguar F-PACE, and the front, if I may, has hints of a Maserati Levante.

It skillfully throws dust in the eyes.

The panoramic roof is huge. There is a lot of light in the cabin – the mood has become better.

Climate control is on an autonomous panel. I like this, as do the separate buttons for defogging the windows and heating the mirrors.

The crossover does not have electronic assistants, such as blind spot monitoring or lane assist. The car relies entirely on the driver’s steering experience.

But Dongfeng Forthing T5 EVO is safe – eight airbags.

No matter what the equalizer is, the music is muffled, which spoils the impression of a serene ride around the city.

A job for a job

Three driving modes to choose from: standard, economical and sport.

As much as 197 hp was pulled out of the 1.5-liter engine. The Getrag gearbox is a seven-speed robot.

Dongfeng Forthing T5 EVO goes to “hundreds” in 9.5 seconds. However, you don’t want to “lean” on it at all; it’s better to sit in a chair and sail smoothly in “standard” mode.

The suspension is hard. Hatches and cracks hit the back, but this is bearable. The car rolls and rolls even on not the sharpest turns.

Noise from the arches penetrates the cabin even at low speeds. No one expected good sound insulation for that kind of money.

There are really not enough all-round cameras – there are only those in the rear. In narrow courtyards, especially in the evening, turning around is problematic. It’s easier to leave your car by the road than to go deep into a busy yard. But if you are already trapped in a sleeping bag, the curb is easy to conquer: the ground clearance of the Dongfeng Forthing T5 EVO is 195 mm.

The rides, like for a Chinese crossover, turned out to be economical: fuel consumption in the urban cycle is 9 liters per hundred.

The first step after purchasing the Dongfeng Forthing T5 EVO is to install the front parking sensors yourself and redo the acoustics.
