Porsche confirmed earlier this year that the next generation of the 718 would be electric. With the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance, the Stuttgart brand is putting this project into practice! This coupé will be used as a test vehicle and its specifications are tailor-made for sprint racing.
1,000 horsepower
This prototype uses the chassis of the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport which has been widened by 14 centimeters. On the engine side, we find that of the Mission R, a concept unveiled at the IAA in Munich. Porsche claims to have developed no less than 6,000 new parts for this car! Some of them will no doubt end up on the next generation of the 718.
The figures are impressive: in qualifying mode, the engine develops 735 kW (1,000 hp)! When used in racing, it produces 450 kW (612 hp) for 30 minutes. 30 minutes may seem short, but it’s the duration of a Carrera Cup race! Between races, the 80 kWh battery of the Cayman GT4 ePerformance can be recharged from 5 to 80% in 15 minutes thanks to its 900V technology. According to Porsche, the performance is equivalent to that of the current 911 GT3 Cup, both in terms of top speed and lap times.
The Cayman GT4 ePerformance will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, June 23-26, where it will compete in the 1.9 kilometer hill climb.
