An elderly Porsche driver has died trying to avoid a pothole in Sussex, Britain.
The 74-year-old Briton died instantly when the white Porsche 911 GT2 (type 997) he was driving crashed into several vehicles before ending up in a house fence on the side of the road.
A 65-year-old man driving a white BMW was taken to hospital following suffering “serious injuries” from the collision. Two other vehicles, a black BMW and a white Audi, were also involved in the horrific crash.
There is a large pothole at the scene and according to the police, the driver probably tried to avoid it.
The crash, on the A272 Horsham Road near Petworth, happened on Monday (29.04.2024) on the same day as a race held by members of the Porsche Owners Club at Goodwood Racecourse just a few kilometers away.
The Porsche Club Great Britain does not know if the car was owned by any of its members.
Sussex Police believe the sports car collided with the BMW as it swerved to avoid the pothole, hitting two other vehicles and the porch of a house before coming to a stop.
Ambulances and a helicopter were called to the scene to transport him seriously injured, but despite the efforts of the rescuers, he died before being transported to the hospital.
The 65-year-old driver of the white BMW was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, where he remains in a stable condition. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
There is currently no indication that excessive speed played a role in the crash.
The 911 997 GT2 is one of the fastest versions of the sports car produced by Porsche.
