Porsche Design PDB90: Soundbar with Dolby Atmos for 999 euros

Porsche Design is ready for its collaborations with other manufacturers. For example, you already did with KEF for noise canceling headphones common cause. But the brand also has its own soundbars. You are currently present the already available PDB70, which costs 499 euros, has a higher quality flagship on its side. This is the new Porsche Design PDB90, which should score with a special feature. The upfiring drivers of this soundbar can be angled by 20° to improve the 3D sound and achieve a wider sweet spot. At least that’s what the manufacturer promises in its press email.

We mentioned 3D sound, so naturally the Porsche Design PDB90 supports it Dolby Atmos – and additionally too DTS:X. In addition to the special feature of the adjustable drivers, the new sound bar should also score with its puristic design. In order to maintain the minimalism, Porsche Design then dispenses with rear speakers or an external subwoofer. Rather, the sub is integrated directly into the soundbar. In total, the PDB90 relies on 16 driver units.

The manufacturer literally promises “outstanding sound quality”. Of course you would have to check that yourself. What is certain is that the PDB90 stands for a 5.1.2 system. There are two HDMI ports – one in and one out. Also eARC find support here. The manufacturer also mentions Optical, USB and AUX as additional connections.

Porsche Design PDB90 is now available in stores

Although the company states that the PDB90 is available now in stores, in Porsche Design stores and in the supplier’s online shop, it is not yet listed on the official website. However, that should change shortly. It is positive to note that a wall bracket is included in the scope of delivery. You can of course also activate different sound modes for surround sound, increased dialogue or reduced dynamic range. The latter can be helpful in rented apartments to protect the neighbors in the evening.

Those who want to connect the soundbar to mobile devices also have this opportunity. Bluetooth is on board for this. Incidentally, a subwoofer might be retrofitted, at least such a connection is available on the back. The PDB90 achieves 316 watts (RMS) of power. According to the manufacturer, it covers a frequency range from 60 Hz to 20 kHz. The dimensions are 1,200 x 210 x 75 mm with a weight of 8.69 kg.

The simple design of the soundbar will certainly find its fans. As for the tonal qualities in direct comparison with competing models from Samsung, for example is ordered is of course difficult to assess without a hearing test.
