After Utah, the porn video platform Pornhub decided to withdraw from the states of Mississippi and Virginia to protest recent laws requiring users to prove their identity to access the site. Similar arrangements may soon be made in Texas and Montana.
According to the site, these laws pose a personal data security problem, jeopardize the economy of online pornography and do not fulfill the stated objective: to prevent the exposure of minors to pornographic content.
“This Virginia law went into effect on Saturday [1er juillet]. Residents of the state who try to access Pornhub see a message from porn star Cherie DeVille telling them that the site will remain closed ‘until a real solution is offered’”, explain Gizmodo.
