Pork prices rose in China week-on-week, according to market data.
From Sept. 5 to 9, the average pork price tracked by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stood at 30.69 yuan (regarding $4.43) per kilogram, up 1.2 percent. compared to the previous week. The price was 69.4% higher year on year.
The ministry attributed the price hike to “reluctance to sell” ahead of the Mid-Autonomous Festival and early pork storage led by some regions.
The price of pork, a staple meat in China, has continued to rise in recent weeks. The National Development and Reform Commission put 200,000 tonnes of pork from government reserves on the market in September to maintain supply and price stability.
