The European Federation of Internal Medicine (FEFIM) has awarded Jose Manuel Porcelmedical director of the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital and researcher at the Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida), the distinction of Fellow, reserved for professionals who have stood out for their merits and contributions to internal medicine in Europe. The FEFIM distinguished Porcel last Thursday, June 9, during the celebration of the XX European Congress of Internal Medicine held in Malaga.

Founded in 1996, FEFIM is an international organization that is made up of 34 European societies of Internal Medicine. Its objectives include highlighting the importance of the specialty, establishing connection bridges between European internists, organizing congresses and meetings and providing information to public and private institutions on Internal Medicine.

José M. Porcel is Professor of Medicine, Medical Director of the Arnau de Vilanova de Lleida University Hospital (Spain), Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Head of the Pleural Medicine Unit of the same hospital. He is currently Section Editor of the European Respiratory Journal (official publication of the European Respiratory Society), Associate Editor of the ERJ Open Research (official publication of the European Respiratory Society), and Chief Editor of the Spanish Journal of Medicine (official publication of the Society Spanish of Internal Medicine).

His clinical and research interests focus primarily on the pleural diseases and ranks second among world experts on Pleura. It also has extensive creative work. he has edited 8 medical books, He is the author of more than 300 original manuscripts and has given more than 60 invited lectures on pleural diseases in 16 different countries during the last 10 years.

In addition to his recent appointment, Porcel is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), a Fellow of the European Respiratory Society (FERS), a Fellow of the European Federation of Internal Medicine (FEFIM) and Fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (FAPSR).
