Population feels under-informed

According to a survey, Austrians want KFV survey In view of the risk of flooding, pragmatic preventive measures, more information and a clear legal framework for protection in the event of an incident are needed.

In the representative survey conducted by the KFV, 57 percent of the more than 1,000 respondents stated that insufficient on protective and precautionary measures informed to feel. “A clear majority of 53 percent are of the opinion that in Austria done more for prevention while another 40 percent at least partially agree with this opinion,” explained Armin Kaltenegger, head of the property protection research department at KFV.

Particularly striking is the high level of support for legal framework: 89 percent of respondents were in favor of clearer and uniform regulations on compensation for natural hazards. Natural disaster insurance that benefits all citizens is also seen as a promising measure – 82 percent supported this idea.

Top marks were awarded in the current survey to the performance of the Austrian forces awarded: With “above-average performance”, the fire brigade, Red Cross and the Austrian Armed Forces receive high recognition from the population for their efforts.
