The choice of José Williams (Avanza País) as president of Congress left a new crack in the Popular Action bench, a group that has been dragging for weeks clashes between those accused by Karelim López as ‘The children’ and the block led by the former head of the Board of Directors Maria del Carmen Alva.
In the vote on Monday, September 12, there was an agreement by the parliamentary group to support the candidacy of Luis Aragón. However, María del Carmen Alva and Karol Paredes decided to ignore this decision and announced that they would vote for Williams Zapata.
“The worst of all is that (María del Carmen Alva and Karol Paredes) go out and vote once morest the bench and campaign. Tomorrow we have a bench meeting, we are going to see what happens to them, regardless of the difference,” legislator Darwin Espinoza told The Republic.
In the case of Alva Prieto, it would be the second time that he does not respect the bench agreement. The first time was when he did not accept the presidency of the Andean Peoples Commission and prevailed —with the support of Fujimorism, APP, Renovación Popular and Avanza País— in the Foreign Relations Commission. This, despite the fact that the ownership of that working group was going to fall on his co-religionist Raúl Doroteo.
“When María del Carmen Alva said to be a candidate for the presidency, there was a group that wanted to boycott that division and vote once morest it and we prevailed and demanded that all members show their vote. Now she went the other way around, she plots and causes no one to show her vote, ”she recalled.
Possible sanction once morest María del Carmen Alva
People’s Action was going to evaluate the start of a sanctioning process once morest María del Carmen Alva at last week’s meeting. However, this point had to be rescheduled due to the election of Aragón as a candidate for the Board of Directors following the censorship of Lady Camones.
“Aragón voted in favor of María del Carmen Alva. It was for Aragón that she was a representative of the Table (in 2021). And she watches how she pays him,” Espinoza added.
