It is a legal episode which further taints the career of the popess of influencers. And this one is big. According to corroborating sources, Magali Berdah was placed in police custody last week in the premises of the judicial police in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) on suspicion of “bankruptcy” and “money laundering” dating back to 2014 and 2015. Following her hearing, the agent of many reality TV stars was presented Friday to a magistrate at the Nice court. She was summoned directly to the criminal court to be tried.
According to sources close to the case, Magali Berdah is suspected of having engaged in large-scale financial embezzlement between 2014 and 2015. She would thus have knowingly organized the cessation of payments of one of her companies founded before her discovery of the world of influencers. Magali Berdah would have bankrupted this company even though it had financial liabilities estimated at 2.5 million euros, according to a judicial source. The offense of bankruptcy is punishable by five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros.
De facto manager of an indebted company
Before managing the contracts of reality TV stars on social networks, Magali Berdah worked in the south of France as a mutual insurance broker, going door to door and canvassing individuals. In her autobiography, “My life in reality”, she recounts in particular having been at the head of a company managing seven brokerage agencies and employing 120 people. An entrepreneurial adventure that ended badly: caught by Urssaf, the business leader had to repay 1 million euros in debt, she says. De facto manager of this simplified joint stock company (SAS) called BA&CO, Magali Berdah saw her company placed in compulsory liquidation on July 30, 2015 when it had debts of nearly 2.5 million euros.
Contacted, Magali Berdah’s lawyers did not wish to comment. “It’s a case that dates back around ten years ago with no connection to Shauna Events[his current company specializing in the management of influencers, Editor’s note]declare Mes Rachel-Flore Pardo, David-Olivier Kaminski, Antonin Gravelin-Rodriguez. “The company in question had many employees, it filed for bankruptcy but the managers including Magali Berdah insisted on paying the employees and suppliers. There is no personal enrichment,” assures Me Frank Berton, his fourth lawyer who assisted him in police custody. Pending her trial which will be held on November 18, 2023, the popess of influencers has been placed under judicial supervision with a ban on managing a company and an obligation to report. Three other people will be tried alongside him, according to the Nice prosecutor’s office.
An investigation into “deceptive commercial practices”
This is not the first time that the popess of influencers finds herself in trouble with the law. The founder of the Shauna Events agency was notably sentenced in 2019 to a one-year suspended prison sentence and a ban on managing a company for five years for “abuse of weakness” and “money laundering”. Stricken with a banking ban and in debt, she then allegedly took money from a former senior official suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Magali Berdah has also been targeted since September 6, 2022 by an investigation for “deceptive commercial practices” following a complaint filed by rapper Booba.
For a little over a year, Magali Berdah, who made her fortune thanks to her agency Shauna Events, specialized in connecting brands and television personalities, has been in open conflict with the famous rapper. On social networks, the artist has launched a real crusade once morest those he calls “influvoleurs”, these reality TV stars who regularly promote products on their social networks. Booba’s main target is the one he considers to be the main organizer of this system: Magali Berdah. Since then, the 41-year-old mother has been the target of significant cyberharassment and targeted by thousands of malicious messages on social networks. Several dozen alleged harassers must soon be tried in Paris.
