Pope’s call to “not fan the flame”

VATICAN CITY (EFE).— Pope Francis assured yesterday that whoever believes in God can only repudiate war, in a message sent to the Saudi television channel “Al Arabiya” on the occasion of the end of the holy month of Muslims, Ramadan, in which he called for “not fanning the flames of resentment” throughout the Middle East.

“God is peace and wants peace. Whoever believes in it can only repudiate war, which does not resolve, but rather increases, conflicts. War, I never tire of repeating, is always and only a defeat: it is a directionless path; It does not open perspectives, but rather extinguishes hope,” he said.
