In a letter signed by Cardinal Parolin addressed to French Catholics, Pope Francis hopes that the 2024 Olympic Games will be an opportunity for dialogue between peoples and “a real boost to the fraternity that the world needs.”
Let the Olympic Games that will be held in France in the summer of 2024 be “a deep and fruitful meeting between people from many horizons, belonging to different peoples, cultures and religions.” This is what we read in a letter to Pope Francis, signed by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and addressed to “dear friends, Catholics of France.”
The letter speaks of “joy”, but also of “responsibility”, in welcoming the whole world on the occasion of the Olympic Games, and for this reason the Pope calls on everyone to act “on a large scale” and also invites them to “become volunteers” and open churches, schools, homes and especially hearts. “With gratuitousness – we read in the letter – and generous reception and dedication, you will bear witness to Christ who lives in you and who conveys his joy to you.”
Giving thanks so as not to forget, in this “beautiful celebration of sport”, that we “help to include people with special needs, the poor and the marginalized”, Pope Francis concludes his message by wishing that “the Olympic Games will be an opportunity, through sport, for a real impulse of fraternity that the world needs”. Giving his blessing to all the organizers, volunteers and all participants in the Games.
